We've been giving tests to people of all ages for years, and we know how to make your experience as relaxed and safe as possible. Everyone wants to be on the road with other safe drivers. You can trust us to help you get on that road for the first time or get going again.

Tests for Teens

Drivers Education - Individuals under 18 must take a state certified drivers education course through a certified driving school. They will take Segment 1 and Segment 2 classes before they can schedule a road test.

Practice - The State of Michigan requires a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving, 10 hours of which must have occurred at night, with a parent, legal guardian or licensed adult 21 years of age or older with parent permission. You will need to keep a log of your driving hours.

Tests for Adults

Temporary Instruction Permit - Before you can start practicing, you'll need to stop by the secretary of state and pick up your (TIP)Temporary Instruction Permit (view sample). These are usually valid for 6 months.

Practice - If you've driven before the Secretary of State will often waive your practice period or 30 days so that you can test right away. If your 30 day practice period isn't waived, you can still schedule your road test ahead of time to make sure you get your test as soon as possible. If your test is waived the Secretary of State will have that written on your TIP.
